When asked to describe her style she replied, "I love to use a mixture of styles and materials. The word 'eclectic' has been overused, but I truly believe that it accurately describes my style. I use contemporary fabrics and colors on period pieces in traditional settings. At the same time, an extraordinary antique can be a wonderful accent in a contemporary setting. It is the juxtaposition of furnishings that excites and inspires me. I have always loved the architecture of other decades and the historical roles these buildings have played in the development of our country. For this reason, I am very interested in the historic preservation of these buildings."

Janie Petkus formed her business in 1977 on the basic premise that clients want comfortable, timeless design solutions that are beautiful as well as functional. They would like the design process to be personal and enjoyable. Over the years Ms. Petkus has had a variety of projects, both residential and commercial, in Naples, FL; Atlanta, GA; Charleston, SC; Washington, DC; Beaver Creek, CO; Michigan Dunes, MI; and Lake Geneva, WI; as well as the Chicago area.
